Privacy Policy

Simmer ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by Dithery Designs. This privacy policy explains what information we collect when you use the Simmer app, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

Simmer supports two types of accounts:

  • Anonymous accounts: When you use Simmer without signing up, we create a temporary anonymous account so you can participate in gatherings. No name, email, or personal details are required.
  • Registered accounts: If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address and any display name you provide.

Usage Data

When you use Simmer we store:

  • Gatherings you create or join (name, filters, participant list)
  • Your recipe swipe choices (liked or disliked) within a gathering
  • Chat messages sent within a gathering
  • Recipes you save to your personal recipe box
  • App preferences such as theme settings

Device Permissions

Camera: Simmer requests camera access solely to scan QR codes when joining a gathering. We do not capture, store, or transmit photos or video.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Enable shared swiping sessions (gatherings) between users
  • Calculate recipe matches when all participants swipe right on the same recipe
  • Provide in-gathering chat between participants
  • Maintain your personal recipe box across sessions
  • Respond to support requests or bug reports you submit

We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

Supabase

We use Supabase to store and authenticate your data. Supabase acts as our database and authentication provider. Your data is stored on Supabase-managed infrastructure. See supabase.com/privacy for their privacy policy.

TheMealDB

Recipe data (names, images, ingredients) is fetched from TheMealDB, a public recipe database. We do not send any of your personal information to TheMealDB.

4. Data Retention

Gathering data (swipes, matches, chat messages) is retained while the gathering is active. Anonymous account data may be deleted after a period of inactivity. Registered account data is retained until you delete your account.

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen inside the app. Account deletion permanently removes all your data, including saved recipes, swipe history, and participation records.

5. Children's Privacy

Simmer is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data by deleting your account in-app
  • Contact us with any privacy concerns

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
